Learn CSS in Just 5 Minutes

Having been a previous CSS (Cascading Sytle Sheets) Idiot I am going to try to pass
my knowledge on to other people who just don’t get CSS or think it’s too hard or
not worth it. 10 minutes ago I was just like those people and after finally understanding
it, it is extremely simple.

Style settings can be put in following places.
1. An HTML page in <style> tags.
2. An HTML page in the <head> tag.
3. An external .css file.

Putting stuff in (1) will override stuff in (2) and (3).  Putting stuff in (2) will
override stuff in (3). See how it cascades? That is all that CASCADING is.

#1 example This will show the phrase “Some words in 8pt font.” in your current font
but in font size 8!
<span style=”font-size:8pt”>Some words in 8pt font.</span>

#2 example This will do the same exact thing but for all span tags.
<style type=”text/css”>
font-size: 8pt;

#3 example This will do the same thing as 2 except for all span tags that point
to the css file containing the code.

font-size: 8pt;

<span>Some words in 8pt font.</span>

In the above examples we can use A, TD, TABLE or any other HTML tag we choose and
set their styles (or think of them as properties).
If you don’t want to affect all the tags you can use a what is called a “class”
which is still very easy.

font-size: 8pt;

<span class=”AnyNameYouCanThinkOf”>BLAH BLAH BLAH</span>

The above would also work if you had a different tag and it will work on…
<div class=”AnyNameYouCanThinkOf”>BLAH BLAH BLAH</div>
…and also on…
<table><tr><td class=”AnyNameYouCanThinkOf”>BLAH BLAH BLAH</td></tr></table>

If you want it to only work on <span>s that have the class “AnyNameYouCanThinkOf”
then you would change your CSS File to…
font-size: 8pt;

Also, if you only wanted spans that where inside of a div you would use
div span
font-size: 8pt;

If you only wanted it inside of <div>s that are inside <td>s where the
<td> is of class “TDClass” you would use this…
td.TDClass div
font-size: 8pt;

In the last example the style would be picked up by…
<table><tr><td class=”TDClass><div>THIS WORKS</div></td></tr></table>
…but it wouldn’t work for this…
<table><tr><td class=”TDClass>THIS DOES NOT WORK</td></tr></table>
…or for this…
<span class=”TDClass><div>THIS DOES NOT WORK</div></span>

Simple huh?

Drunken Texting (Drexting) in our lives!

There is an epidemic streaking across the urban areas of the world. This affliction causes millions to become isolated and alone every weekend as their friends and acquaintances cut off all communications. A person’s good “rep” can be lost in the blink of an eye because of this horrible syndrome.

As you probably already guessed, I am talking about DREXTING. Drexting is also known as “Drunk Texting” or “Drunken Text Messaging”. You may have also heard of it as Booty Texting. DREXTING is very similar to “Booty Calling” and “Drunk Dialing” and it shares many of the same origins and has almost identical signs and repercussions.

Together we can stop DREXTING! While out on the town or at a party, look for possible DREXTERs. They are often characterized as suddenly withdrawn and constantly holding a cell phone while not using it for talking. As a night out at a bar progresses and it gets closer to “last call”, the likelihood for DREXTING increases.

Warning Signs of a DREXTER
- Withdrawn
- Nervous
- Obviously Horny
- Often glancing at his/her cellular phone
- Overdue for a “hookup”
- Lives at home and parents are out of town.

Top ways to prevent text messaging!
1. Never drink alone. Agree to stop all friends DREXTs and have them agree to do likewise.
2. Get a designated driver. Knowing that they will leave your drunk ass somewhere while you try to find a fellow BOOTY TEXTER decreases your chance for DREXTING.
3. Bring a date.
4. Leave your phone in a car or with a friend. Guys out with girlfriends have it easy and have the option of putting their phone in the woman’s purse.
5. Get a sweet old monochrome phone. You know, the ones with indiglo that weigh a ton and don’t have texting capabilities. “Bag Phones”, “Car Phones” and Zach Morris type phones are ideal.

How to minimize DREXTING (If you are going to do it, minimize the effects, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS SAFE DREXTING!)
1. SPELL CHECK! — Reread your drunken text message several times. If a trustworthy friend is close by have them read it.
2. DON’T OVER INTERPRET! — Much like instant messaging, incoming DREXT MESSAGES do not have a tone. Even worse DREXTs don’t have emoticons. Read the text carefully and don’t get bent out of shape if it is not nice. It is more than likely that you are misreading the DREXT.
3. DON’T GET UPSET BY DENIAL — If your attempts at obtaining drunken booty are denied, don’t get upset. Chances are that you probably hooked up with this person before and never called him/her back. Males have approximately 3 times the chance of getting denied.
4. ERASE ALL DREXTs — Make sure you erase the incoming, outgoing and draft messages from you mobile phone. Do not leave any proof that a DREXT occurred. If called out on a failed DREXT respond with confused looks. When all else fails… run away, change your name and find a new job.

Digg Me for $29.99!

Write an article about me, Geiger, and Digg it. If you have the most Digg’s by the end of November I will PayPal you $25 buckaroos!

The fun part is that the article doesn’t have to be true. I actually encourage you to make up something interesting about me. I don’t even need to be human. Make me “Geiger the Red Stapler” or Geiger of the Planet Guy-Gore. I want to see who is the best writer and Digger!

This is more of an experiment and I am not asking for any sort of back links. Actually if you’re good at it, I’ll link to you!

Make sure you comment so I can find you.

How to get 15 – 30 new visitors in 2 minutes

Step 1: Submit article to Digg.com

That’s it. Come up with something and simply “Digg It”. You are guarnteed new visitors. A new Digg get’s more attention than an old one as Digg vultures constantly scan them.

My most recent somewhat popular Digg was just a test and people just Dugg it to be annoying. (Annoying in a very funny way though) So don’t ask me how to do anything but get 15-30 new visitors.

If the quality of your page and subject matter is there, then everything else will fall into place. The only people that find me interesting are “Me” and my dear sweet mother.

Retrieve ASP.NET Page Name

In ASP.NET you can get the page name using the HttpRequest object. Look at the following 2 examples and you can easily convert it from C# to VB, PHP, PERL or whatever.

This will include the relative path to the form.

This only includes the name of the page or form.

This is helpful if you are using master pages with content pages as you may need to know what you page you are showing on the master page.

Link Width in FireFox @lt;a href width

How do you set the link width in FireFox? Adding a width attribute to an “a” tag does not work. All that you should have to do is add the width and “display: inline-block” to the “a” tag’s style attribute like so. (But this isn’t going to work)
<a href=”http://www.google.com” style =”width: 200px; display:inline-block”>Google</a>

This does work for Internet Explorer (IE) and should work for FireFox but does not. What you have do to is add an undocumented attribute called “-moz-inline-block” in addition to the normal “inline-block”. Therefore you need this.
<a href=”http://www.google.com” style =”width: 200px; display:inline-block; display:-moz-inline-block”>Google</a>

This is just one of many hang-ups that web developers need to face. Hopefully having 2 real viable choices (IE and FireFox) will force them to be closer to real standards.
